Redact PDF

Permanently black out sensitive text in a PDF — private, in your browser

How to use

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above (it stays on your device).
  2. Drag a black box over any text, name, number, or area you want to hide. Add as many as you need across all pages.
  3. Click Apply & Download. Each page is flattened to an image with the boxes baked in.
  4. Download your redacted PDF — the hidden content is permanently gone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the text really removed, or just hidden?

Really removed. Each page is re-rendered to an image with the black boxes painted in, so there's no selectable or hidden text left underneath — unlike covering it with a shape in a PDF editor, which can be undone.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened and redacted entirely in your browser. It never leaves your device, so it's safe for confidential or legal documents.

Can someone copy the text out of the redacted PDF?

No. Because the redacted pages become flattened images, there's no underlying text to select, copy, or extract.

Will the redacted PDF still have selectable text elsewhere?

The pages you export become images, so text won't be selectable. This is the trade-off for guaranteed, unrecoverable redaction.

Does redaction work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. Since it works on the visual page, it redacts scanned/image PDFs just as well as text PDFs.
