Why use this tool
Two levels in one: Flat on a table it is a round bubble level for both directions. On its edge it becomes a straight spirit level for shelves, frames and walls.
Tenths of a degree: The exact angle is shown, and the phone vibrates when it reaches level, so you do not need to watch the screen.
Calibration: Cases and camera bumps tilt phones. Calibrate once on a surface and the correction is remembered.
Compass: A magnetic heading with cardinal directions on a dial that turns with the phone.
Live sensor data: Accelerometer, gyroscope and orientation values with a live chart and update rate, plus a vibration motor test.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a phone level?
Phone accelerometers are usually accurate to a fraction of a degree once calibrated, which is fine for hanging pictures and shelves. For construction work, check against a real spirit level.
Why does my phone not show level on a flat table?
A camera bump or case lifts one side. Use Calibrate here on a surface you trust, then turn the phone 180 degrees in the same spot to confirm it still reads level.
Why is there no compass on my device?
Some browsers only share tilt, not direction, and computers have no compass. On Android use Chrome, and on iPhone use Safari and allow motion access.
Does this work on a laptop?
Most laptops and desktop computers have no motion sensors. Scan the code shown on the page to open it on your phone.
Is my motion data recorded?
No. Sensor readings are shown live in your browser and are never saved or sent anywhere.
