Why use this tool

Frequently asked questions

How many digits can the average person remember?

About 7, give or take 2, is the classic figure for short term memory. Many people reach 8 or 9 with practice, and memory athletes go far beyond that using special techniques.

How can I remember more digits?

Group them. Instead of 9 separate digits, remember three numbers of three digits, the way phone numbers are split. Saying them to yourself in a rhythm also helps.

Does this test measure intelligence?

No. It measures one part of working memory. It changes with tiredness, focus and practice, so treat it as a fun brain exercise, not a diagnosis.

Why can I not copy the number?

Copying is blocked while the number is on screen so scores stay fair when you challenge friends.
